Haskell is seeking an Estimating Lead to join our team.

Salary Range: $150,000 to $215,000
Job Goal: The objective of the Estimating Manager is to ensure that Haskell cost estimates are accurate, comprehensive, timely and competitive.
Reports to: Chief Estimator
Location: Bellingham Washington

Develop Estimates and Proposals

Support project managers and the proposal administrator by working on and leading active proposals and estimates. This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Summarize each RFP so management can determine whether to pursue the opportunity.
  • Work with Project Managers and Haskell Management to develop bid strategies.
  • Attending site visits.
  • Act as an estimate lead or assign estimate leads.
  • Work with the proposal administrator to ensure various Haskell support departments are reviewing and providing RFP info: quality, safety, project controls, information technology, insurance, contract terms, payroll, etc.
  • Ensure RFP deliverables are assigned to the correct individuals.
  • Develop other RFP deliverables such as organization charts and execution plans.
  • Set up each HeavyBid estimate file or ensure it has been set up correctly.
  • Performing material take-offs.
  • Solicit and evaluate material and subcontractor pricing.
  • Develop labor estimates and indirect plans.
  • Input information into HeavyBid.
  • Schedule and attend estimate reviews.
  • Ensure RFP deliverables are completed and submitted.
  • Ensure awarded projects are properly coded and loaded into Haskell’s accounting software.
  • Ensure estimate turnover meetings are conducted.

Manage Estimate Tools and Process

  • Host weekly Estimating Meetings.
  • Maintain Haskell HeavyBid databases: vendor, phase code and resource.
  • Work with Project Controls to consistently update HeavyBid with historical data.
  • Attend HCSS annual conference and keep track of improvements and new products.
  • Maintain the phase code manual and enforce proper use of the codes.
  • Assist in maintaining Estimating Operations Manual.
  • Maintain and improve estimating spreadsheets tools.

  • Provide and participate in employee evaluations.
  • Support development of project closeout books.
  • Participate in business development meetings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key, local vendors.
  • Visit Haskell project sites during construction to build knowledge and relationships with project teams.

Preferred Prerequisites:

  1. Ten years or more experience in Construction, preferably industrial construction;
  2. Five years or more experience estimating;
  3. Bachelor of Science in Construction Management or Engineering;
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft products: Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook;
  5. Skilled in technical writing;
  6. Experience with Bluebeam Revu;
  7. And/or, experience with HeavyBid estimating software (HCSS) or similar relational database estimating programs.

Haskell is seeking highly motivated site managers, field engineers, estimators and superintendents to join our team.

We’re seeking candidates with education and / or experience in industrial construction. Industrial construction includes anything “process” related such as refining, power generation, steam generation, chemical, mining, pipeline, cement, pulp & paper, hydrogen, geothermal, waste heat and other renewable energy related fields. Candidates with construction experience that is not specific to industrial may also be considered.

Haskell will accept field engineer and estimator candidates that are graduates from an accredited university with a Bachelor of Science degree (engineering or construction management) and / or equivalent experience working in or around industrial process related construction projects.

Haskell would prefer superintendent and project management candidates have at least five years of experience in or around the industrial estimating and project management arena.
Experience on projects with union labor and an understanding of collective bargaining agreements (C.B.A.’s) is a plus. Knowledge of and experience with relational database estimating software is also an advantage.

Employees in these positions will need to develop and have:

  • Proficiency with Construction software such as Primavera Scheduling, Bluebeam, AutoCad, HCSS HeavyBid, Timberline, MS Word and Excel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel to either oversee and/or manage projects outside of the area.
  • Experience working with or overseeing union mechanical trades (i.e., Pipefitters, Boilermakers, Ironworkers).
  • Capability to quickly review and disseminate bid package documentation.
  • Conduct thorough and comprehensive site visits for prospective bids.
  • Effective collaboration with construction management & supervision to determine winning strategies for bids and project execution.
  • Successful relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Ability to identify key project risk factors for senior management reviews.
  • Ability to effectively manage bid process schedules to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts that arise in a contracting environment.
